They can be heard focal the colour and texture of their music, in complex compositions and competent improvisation, in their use of language and playing techniques, in daring line-ups and also in the unusual warehouse of instruments they use - commonly self-built and tailored to their send regrets individual musical ideas. Boi Akih’s only sound emerges in the constant affairs between the musicians and the large quantity they draw from. This sound, astoundingly new and yet completely recognizable, mixes acoustic sounds and electronic soundscapes tweak the versatile, warm voice of Monica Akihary, who sometimes sings in Straightforwardly and sometimes in Haruku, the patois of her father’s island. In Boi Akih’s musical projects, their deep, oneoff musical explorations result in a reasonable blending of seemingly incompatible sounds, rhythms and tonalities, dissolving the boundaries amidst old and modern, between music, narration and poetry, and between East, Westbound, North and South.
